The Cade t-shirt…

Image

While talking about the t-shirt may be nothing new, it doesn’t take anything away from the status the basic t-shirt upholds. As a wardrobe staple that is fit for practically any occasion, Foxhall believes you can never have too many plain t-shirts. Whether you’re wearing a plain white t-shirt with a pair of denim jeans or underneath a two-piece black suit, you can feel prepared for any casual or smart occasion with the short-sleeve essential. Today however, we aren’t just praising the power of the t-shirt, but instead we’d like to talk about how the t-shirt has shaped Foxhall.

The plain, fitted navy t-shirt is specially regarded within Foxhall. The t-shirt was the original inspiration for the Foxhall brand – Foxhall wanted to create something that was of great quality and was perfectly fitted. It was important that the t-shirt held its colour and shape after multiple washes, which is made possible by the lightweight premium cotton jersey. Shape was an important factor as Foxhall wanted something that provided a fitted look across the chest and arms, but maintained a comfortable, relaxed look, by being looser around the waist. The final product CADE comes in navy, grey, white and black and is a true representation of Foxhall’s style and appreciation for sleekness. Foxhall challenge anyone to find a better fitting t-shirt anywhere else – and if you do, we’ll give them a t-shirt ourselves.

Spring Summer 2014’s first drop…

Image

As London begins experiencing the long awaited sunshine, the earlier sunrises provide indication that spring/summer is almost here. Our final days of the urbanwear sale can only mean one thing: be prepared for the launch of Foxhall’s definitive spring/summer collection.

While we don’t want to reveal too much yet about what will be available to the urbanwear enthusiasts, we can only provide you with the information that the Foxhall aesthetic is evident throughout the collection, plush with true shades of Foxhall blue, technical materials and signature cuts for the modern day man.

Our highlight for today is our GULL messenger bag, which is new to the Foxhall essentials. Made from a robust, technical nylon, the bag is lined with Foxhall’s signature blue, adjusted to include an inner-laptop pocket to fit both your important work documents and 15″ hardware. The style remains true to the brand: sleek, modern and maintaining functionality – a modern mobility essential for the city goer.

10 minutes with the Foxhall Design Team: the SS14 Collection

Image

Foxhall celebrates its 2nd summer season, maintaining the urban theme throughout its collection by designing function-first pieces for the London man. With a sleek, London-inspired collection, Foxhall reveals its first ever overarching theme to the spring/summer 2014 collection, explaining the concept behind “Urbancode”, which highlights the brand’s foundations in combination with London themed product names. Continuing from the success of Foxhall’s first footwear collection, the upcoming season will also see summer footwear, utilising Foxhall’s key attributes – sleek; functional and contemporary. To find out more about the collection, we introduce our 10 minutes with the Foxhall Design Team.

Tell us a bit about Foxhall’s up and coming spring/summer 2014 collection.

It’s our 2nd summer season and we’re looking very forward to our clients’ seeing it. We learnt a lot from our first summer collection: what clients loved, what they didn’t and what they were still looking for from us. For summer 2014 we’ve worked hard to develop a sleek, focused collection. It’s full of contemporary, easy to wear pieces with a more technical focus; the fit is great and there are fantastic seasonal colours with amazing quality fabrics.

For the first time there is an overarching theme to the collection – “Urbancode”.

While we’re still new to many people it’s important to get the message out there of what Foxhall is about. Officially we do sleek, forward-looking British urbanwear with a technical focus. What the Urbancode theme does is allow us to bring that story out in interesting ways that are relevant to our clients.

We celebrate London life and design for it – the weather, transport, the occasions our clients need to be dressed for – and hopefully the stories surrounding this collection will help to do that.

For SS14 we’ve shot on location again in the London areas that inspire us at the minute – as the season develops we’ll explore the urban fabric of these areas and hopefully have some interesting conversations – hence the title ‘Urbancode’.

What are the highlights of the collection?

You’ll notice a shift to urban technicalwear – outerwear especially is more technically oriented, yet still uses iconic British shapes – the blazer, the raincoat – but executed in sleek tech fabrics with metal and rubberised hardwear that combine to form a powerfully functional, masculine style.

This ‘Urbantech’ theme flows through to our summer trousers, where shapes and silhouettes are brought to life in hardwearing cotton drills and sleek hardwearing trim. Chinos, contemporary cargos, smart, casual and jersey shorts, and new swimming trunks – there’s a lot of newness in there that we’re excited about.

Are you continuing footwear for summer?

Yes absolutely. The AW13 Footwear launch has been encouragingly well received, and we’re building on that with a range of summer styles – white soled Derbys and Oxfords in contemporary perforated suedes and leathers, super-sleek summer desert boots and our take on a contemporary staple the moccasin driving shoe. There’s something there for every summer occasion.

What are your favourite pieces?

We love the CATESBY Tailored Tech Blazer – it’s an iconic outerwear shape executed in technical fabric with urban-appropriate trim – it’s lightweight, modern, and functional too with sealed seams for rain and wind protection.

Also – the HOGARTH Tech Biker – Hogarth has been a successful shape for us previously in Leather, Wax Cotton and Cotton Drill – we’ve now brought it into the technical fold with a sophisticated 2-layer fabric – it looks and feels amazing and the Hogarth fit makes it great to wear. It’s also nicely water and wind resistant.

Where do you get your product names from?

Our products are named after famous Londoners past and present – it’s a good way to honour their contribution to making London great and also indirectly connect our styles to London life, which is what they’re all designed for. Four seasons in we haven’t run out of nice-sounding names yet, but the search is getting less easy with each new style.

Any final word on the collection to leave our readers with?

Check out the Polo colours this season – they’re fantastic. Also – some really lovely shirting fabrics coming – all the best colours of summer right here.

Transitional pieces from autumn/winter to spring/summer

Image

As Foxhall prepares its shift from autumn/winter to spring/summer, we wanted to highlight some of our favourite picks that transfer from season to season, featuring pieces from our urbanwear sale. Some of these may be staples regardless of the weather, and can provide layering options to personalise your urban outfit for the day.

The FLEMING jacket – The nautical blue is a brilliant shade for both gloomy and sunny skies, and in London we’re certainly beginning to see the clouds clear. Providing wind resistance for those occasional gusts, the jacket makes a good backpack essential for when you plan on cycling during the evenings, utilising a cyclist-friendly reflective strip.

The WOOLF polo – While the WOOLF will be seeing an upgrade in colours for SS14, the Foxhall dark denim colourway is an essential Foxhall basic, providing an urban look throughout the year that can appeal to the smarter urbanite due to its dark shade.

The SPENSER zip-up cardigan – The SPENSER cardigan works both as a outerwear layer over a white t-shirt for the summer, but during colder nights can also work underneath a light coat. The versatile light grey means the piece remains seasonless.

The STOWE cargo trouser   The cargo trouser will be getting a Foxhall revamp next season, as it still is seen as a true representation of Foxhall’s main goal – functional, sleek and stylish clothing. The lighter shade works well with a grey pull-over jumper, essential for your London weekend hedonism.

Foxhall greys in the urbanwear sale…

Image

Earlier this month we introduced the key pieces within the Urbanwear 70% sale, utilising grey t-shirts to complete our suggested look. The Urbanwear sale features three layering essentials – clothing that is suitable for both spring/summer and autumn/winter. Grey is a neutral colour that works well throughout the year, no matter the weather, and a good use of grey can break up the monochrome look, such as layering the SPENSER zip-through cardigan over a white shirt and black tie, providing a smart look for London’s evening events. Those looking for a casual choice can wear the DRYDEN crew neck sweater, pairing the comfortable piece with khaki trousers for a Foxhall urban look, or fashion-conscious individuals can approach our BYRON graphic sweater, which highlights our favourite places in London.

BAFTA’s Best Dressed…

Image(images: Jeff Spicer)

Last night was the highly anticipated BAFTAs, featuring the best dressed of the film industry, representing a more traditional appreciation for tailoring than as seen at the music-orientated Grammys.

Bradley Cooper made our list of stylish favourites again, as seen last time at the Golden Globes awards, where we highlighted our black and white look utilising the MAYHEW tailored jacket and RAKEWELL tailored trouser combination.

With the Oscars a few weeks away, Foxhall is keen to see some more inspirations for London’s black tie etiquette.

10 minute with…The Foxhall Design Team: Shirts

Image

With the push of London men’s fashion and the balance between utility and style, the importance of shirting is becoming greater with the urban gentleman’s urge to dress smart and fashionably yet retaining all forms of comfort. Whether you’re wearing your shirt to work, or preparing for the night ahead, you can never find too many of the classic essential within your wardrobe. The Foxhall Design Team has taken repeated efforts to create Foxhall’s signature shirts, creating a fitting that is both extremely modern and perfect for the urban man, having taken into consideration the demands of Foxhall’s clientèle. Today, The Foxhall Blog Team brings you 10 minutes with The Foxhall Design Team.

Why do you consider the shirt such a staple for Spring/Summer 2014?

A shirt that fits well is one of life’s genuine small pleasures. Think about it next time you’re getting dressed. Most of what makes a good shirt stand out from a mediocre one is its fit, so we focused a lot of our energy on making a Foxhall shirt fit beautifully.

What makes the Foxhall shirt fit beautifully exactly?

Before we made our first shirt we pencilled a little philosophy of what a Foxhall shirt should be: Above all it should fit perfectly: tailored to your body’s form, so you see a sharp silhouette. The tailored fit shouldn’t make you uncomfortable – sacrificing comfort for style seemed like a poor trade-off – we avoided it by getting a balance of comfort and tailoring. You could say our philosophy on shirts is balance.

We dissected a lot of great shirts through many many fittings, and we’ve been fine-tuning the range since we launched utilising our clients’ feedback as well.

What is it about the cut of the shirt that makes it “Foxhall”?

Firstly it’s darted at the back, which gives a body contoured shape. Then, we’ve taken out excess weight so there’s minimal billowing in the arms, chest or waist – that can be irritating for a clean tuck. And the sleeve length and overall drop is generous without being oversized.

Is it right that there’s just one fit of shirt in your line?

Exactly right. We make just one fit of shirt, and then that great shape can be found in our formal, smart, casual and seasonal styles.

At the top end is the formal CAXTON in exceptional Italian cotton with double cuff, French placket and box pleat. Up there with the very best. Then there’s the smart work-day/night-out SAEBERT with crisp collar and front panel with embroidered branding detail.  And then the casual Blake – the weekend shirt – you can tell it by its front chest pocket and dropped back yoke branding.

So what you’re saying is if the Foxhall fit works for you, there’s a shirt for every occasion in your line-up.

Exactly right.  If we’re missing something – let us know!

Cargo Trousers…

Image

As we mentioned earlier this week, the urbanwear sale is now up to 70% off. Part of the special sale is the ultimate urbanwear trouser essential – cargo trousers.

Originally seen as purely utility pieces, our cargo trousers incorporate a modern fit, providing extreme comfort for day-to-day wear but maintaining utility through positioned pockets. We consider these the Foxhall essential for anyone looking to dress down on their commute around London. If you’re not sure how to wear them, consider a t-shirt with a puffa coat, or simply a thick sweater.
